Individual Therapy

What to expect

  • Your first therapy session is generally the longest and lasts 75 - 90 minutes. The clinical intake is an info-gathering session where we get to know you. We’ll ask you about your mental health history and diagnoses. We’ll get to know your medical history, your family history, and your educational history. You’ll get a chance to tell us what is most important to you. We review scheduling, billing, and other “housekeeping” items.

During your intake, we’ll talk about what frequency of therapeutic sessions makes the most sense for you. We might recommend weekly or bi-weekly sessions. Then we start the fun part - working on cultivating your favorite version of you!

  • If it’s important to you to set tangible goals, we can focus one session on setting goals and making a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Your treatment plan might also include a diagnosis; if you’re using Superbills with your insurance, a diagnosis will be required. We will talk through what your diagnosis means and you can always ask questions about diagnoses. You’ll work with your therapist to create a plan for working toward your individual goals for therapy.

  • Once we have found a recurring time to meet, you’ll starting building the relationship with your therapist. This is where the magic happens. Sessions will probably look a little different each week and will be based on your individual therapeutic needs and goals for therapy. Talk to your therapist about what feels important to you in your recurrent sessions.
